I spent most of yesterday at the National World War II museum in New Orleans. It is an amazing facility, far more than you can see in a day.

It is always a very emotional experience for me, because to learn about World War II is to learn about the terrible things we can do to each other. You see first hand the consequences of hate, of making anyone the 'other' and therefore less than.

You also see the bravery and selflessness of millions of people who sacrificed their lives so that the ideologies of hate and racial and ethnic supremacy did not come to rule our planet.

All very emotional, and at the end of the day, inspiring. I feel like I can never disrespect the sacrifice represented by the crosses in this picture. I can never disrespect the sacrifices of their loved ones by not treasuring and cherishing the world order they died to create.

Hate and ideologies that pit us against each other and make some lives less valuable than others should never be supported.

Our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents sacrifices deserve better from us than that. We must continue to support the advancement of civilization to a true world community that lives in peace, and that values all of the citizens of the world.
