I had what I thought was a good idea for marketing my books. Since my books are Christian fiction, I thought if I went to church fairs and got a booth it would be a natural fit with my audience.
I still think it is a great idea, but trying to figure out how to get set up to sell books and collect and pay sales taxes is harder than I expected it to be.
I also realized I don't have a concrete enough picture in my mind of what my set up will be. What will my booth look like? Will I have signage? Do I need to buy a tent of some sort?
I finally googled the right question, and I realize I need to go to a bunch of fairs and festivals and see what others are doing and talk to people and then embark on my own journey.
So now I know what I will be doing on weekends this fall. Not a bad way to spend time. I was thinking I would start selling my books at festivals this fall, now it seems more reasonable that I will be doing research this fall with an eye towards actually going to fairs and selling my books in the spring.
That means more time for writing, and for doing all the things I need to do that don't involve writing and selling books.
The path is never straight, and it never looks quite like I imagine it will. The important thing is to keep moving forward.
